POPs in TouchDesigner 201: Procedural Environments
2026

POPs in TouchDesigner 201: Procedural Environments is a 3-hour 15-minute workshop where I focus on turning POP knowledge into real visual results. Even after learning the fundamentals, many people struggle to connect attributes and systems with actual artistic output - this workshop is designed to bridge that gap.
I guide you step-by-step through building a complete, real-time underwater environment from scratch using procedural geometry and GPU-accelerated particle systems. Together, we create ocean sand with caustics, sculpt rocks with growing sea life, animate seagrass, simulate pseudo-flocking fish, generate bubbles, and shape volumetric light ray; all driven by POPs and attribute logic.

By the end, you’ll understand how to translate attribute-driven thinking into cohesive, visually rich scenes. The focus is not just on techniques, but on building a complete world, giving you a clear workflow to move beyond isolated experiments and start creating polished, real-time environments.

In the workshop, I guide you through building every layer of the environment, from setting up the 3D scene and lighting, to creating the seafloor with dynamic sand, caustics, and volumetric light.
You’ll generate procedural rock formations, populate them with sea life using intelligent distribution systems, and bring the scene to life with organic motion like swaying seagrass, drifting bubbles, and pseudo-flocking fish; all driven by POPs and attribute-based logic.
